The index lists subscription businesses with excellent commercial practices, and raise caution of companies who do not live up to fair customer criteria (see criteria).

For customers to feel safe when signing up for a subscription service they must be able to reach the service provider if questions arise. Therefore, service providers must be available on at least e-mail, and respond to customers within 48 hours.
For customers to feel safe when signing up for a subscription service they must be able to easily access and understand the terms of conditions. Therefore, service providers must make terms and conditions easily accessible on their website.
Offering services with binding time longer than 1 month (without a free-trial period) requires the customer to take a financial risk. Therefore, service providers should offer at least one subscription alternative without binding time longer than 1 month or the option to try new services for free.
To ensure that customers personal data is treated in a secure way, service providers must make a privacy policy available and offer both SSL protection and payment options compliant with PCI DSS.
To ensure that customers don't end up in a subscription trap, service providers must offer customers the option to cancel subscriptions via email, self-service (online portal) and authorized third parties.
